When are these alerts used?
These alerts will primarily be used for emergency incidents where life safety is at risk, such as an evacuation during a wildfire. The alert system will also be used sparingly for specific non-emergency situations, such as a missing person, traffic congestion, and extreme weather notifications.
Please remember that when you register to receive alerts, you can select the types of messages you wish to receive and your preferred means of communication and adjust these settings at any time

Should I sign up for other alerts?
It is recommended to sign up for neighboring alerts, including Lakewood, University Place and Steilacoom. The alerts being sent from a city’s system will only reach that city’s borders. Since we protect all three communities, signing up for multiple alerts will help to ensure you are aware of an important message. We also encourage residents to sign up for Pierce County Alert, which reaches the greater Pierce County area.

How do I sign up?
Visit any of the links above and provide your name, phone, email address, and location. You may remove your phone or email information if you wish to receive only one type of notification.
Providing a location is important. Some emergencies only threaten a small area. In these situations, we may issue a limited alert to nearby subscribers. Local alerts are based on information provided by users – user location is not tracked.
The Genasys Protect Mobile App is also available, which allows you to receive emergency alerts based on your location.

Why is it important to include my address?
Alerts are sent based on location. If you don’t include your address, you’ll get all alerts and may not know if it applies to you to take action.

Who should sign up?
Anyone can sign up! It’s completely free and open to all with no requirements. This includes, but isn’t limited to:
- Residents
- Workers
- Business owners
- Commuters
- Visitors
- Family and friends outside the area who want updates

Is there a cost to register?
No, signing up and receiving emergency alerts is completely free.

How will I know if the call I receive is an emergency alert?
- Lakewood Alert, Steilacoom Alert, and U.P. Alert all use the Genasys system.
If you sign up for Lakewood Alert, phone alerts will show up as (253) 501-6981.
If you sign up for Steilacoom Alert, phone alerts will show up as (253) 983-2035.
If you sign up for U.P. Alert, phone alerts will show up as (253) 501-6974
All text/SMS messages will show up from Sender ID 65513.
Email alerts will be from noreply@genasys.com
We suggest you program these numbers into your cell phone as a “new contact” and use “Emergency Alert” as the contact name. If you need to replay the message received, you can dial the number and listen to the message again in its entirety.

Emergency alerts provide critical updates during emergencies so you can act quickly and stay safe. You’ll receive real-time information, instructions, and precautions tailored to the situation. Its precise targeting ensures alerts go only to those in the area of impact.

How do I check if my information is already in the system?
Try registering for emergency alerts to see if your information is already in the system. If you attempt to register and receive a pop-up message that says “Email is already registered” or “Number is already registered”, simply return to the login screen and click on “Forgot Your Password“.
To receive the password reset link, you must have an email address or a SMS capable phone number on file. If you only have a landline on file, you won’t be able to receive a reset link.

Can I register multiple phone numbers?
Yes, you can include multiple phone numbers and/or email addresses upon registration.

Can I register more than one address on my account?
The emergency alert system allows you to add more than one address and link contact details to each. For alerts in neighboring cities, you must register with those cities individually. Systems are not connected and do not share data.

Does this replace PC Alert?
No, this is in addition to PC Alert. We recommend you subscribe to both so you can receive emergency notifications for other areas around the county.
